The ECB has confirmed that the Kookaburra ball experiment in the County Championship has come to an end. After three seasons of mixed results, all 14 rounds of the 2026 campaign will once again be played with the traditional Dukes ball – a move welcomed by players and fans alike.
Fielding in cricket is a curious mix of danger, drama, and occasional daydreaming. Some positions, like fine leg or third man, let you kick back and watch the action from a safe distance — perfect for practicing your grass-stain-free stance. Others, like short leg or cow corner, are basically courage tests, where a wayward shot can leave you questioning your life choices.
Then there’s point, the busiest spot on the field, where diving, tumbling, and save attempts come fast and furious. Every position has its personality: some are restful, some relentless, and some downright terrifying. But no matter where you stand, each fielder is part of the unsung hero squad, turning potential boundaries into opportunities and making cricket the unpredictable, thrilling game we love.
Cricket fielding comes in all shapes and speeds, from the heart-stopping intensity of Short Leg to the sleepy calm of Third Man. Point keeps you on your toes with constant action, Slip demands lightning-fast reflexes, and Cow Corner masquerades as casual fielding while delivering pure terror. Mid-off and Mid-on offer stylish, moderate excitement, Fine Leg lets you snooze if you like, and Third Man is the ultimate nap zone—proving that in cricket, fielding thrills range from adrenaline-pumping to downright tranquil.
